Quo Vadis - Malaga
  • Quo Vadis - Malaga

  • Mixed Media, acrylic, pigments, sand, 100 x 80 cm, 2017  available

"Quo Vadis" is a historical latin phrase meaning "Where are you going?", according to which St. Peter addressed this question to Jesus. There are only conjectures about the answer.

In my picture, the phrase has no question mark, because mother and child are going into an uncertain future. One leaves, hoping to find a better life somewhere else. Where and when - that will remain open.

These special graffitis will not be found on any wall of a city, because I created them for this painting. But I think they would fit wonderfully into the bohemian Old Town of Malaga - until a restoration makes them disappear.

The paintings Quo Vadis, together with Malaga Impression , ment to me a new step in painting Cityscape impressions. Although they seem to be more realistic, compare to my Echo In The Open Window series paintings, in fact they are again painted without any reference photo or scetch, but from fresh memory, imagination, intuition and invention.

Both paintings were created short after visiting the most important cities of Andalucia: Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada and our nearby and loved Malaga City. I have visited these towns so often, the center and the less spectacular quarters, and every time again they show new surprising aspects to me.

    Malaga Impression

The light during the sunset hour in southern Spain is spectacular. What was known and familiar turns into strange and somehow exotic impressions - changing every minute.
